today's run

Weight 96.4 kg
Run time 43 mts
Distance - 3.67 Km.
Diet - BF -1 egg and 1 rava iddly | Lunch - beef shapta and tingmo  | Dinner - 1 glass of oats

Today, I had to go a little slow and instead of a run did a brisk walk. My wife had also accompanied me and she was not comfortable walking alone. The path was moonlit but was a little desolate. In anycase we managed to burn some calories. There was something strangely romantic about a brisk walk motivating your life partner in a quiet cold but moonlit night :).

Today's run

11 Jan 2017

Weight 96.5 kg
Run time 40 mts
Distance - 4.7 Km.
Diet - BF -1 egg dosa and 1/2 aloo porota | Lunch - rice porridge and bowl of vegies  | Dinner - Porota and panner

I just din't feel like doing the run today. A bad shoulder, the cold night and general laziness were increasing the inertia to move. I pushed myself and went on my first night run. The path was moonlit and it was really cold. I might be the only person in bangalore who would have been sweating so profusely at this time of the night.
Even during the run, my battery died out during the last 6 minutes before the cool down. Every strain in  my body asked me to quit. Now it is during times like this that MoovNow has a store function where the work out gets recorded and stored to be transferred when the phone gets revived again.

I am happy that I was able to still complete the run.

Last year I had a plan of getting healthy, as I reached the milestone of 40. For various reasons, which seem just excuses now. I wasn't able to take control of my life. One of the main excuses was my job and the travel which came along with it. Since september of last year that has been resolved. Now time is not the constraint, it is about how to utilise it productively. This has helped me introspect, reevaluate priorities and set myself new goals.

On getting healthy I have decided to set myself a goal of atleast being able to do a 5 km run comfortably by Feb. The aim is to then increase it to 10 and attempt a half marathon before the year
end.

I am tracking my progress using Moov Now which is a great gadget. Unlike the wearables available in the market, 'Moov Now' is a training partner calculating all the parameters of activities like running, walking and swimming and giving relevant feedback. It is a personal trainer and understands when to push you and more importantly correct your technique. This gives me a whole lot of details about the run. I'm sharing one of the screens of the information which is available through the app

I am also using the running app from Redrock Apps. This app guides you on an interval training and starts of easy with the difficulty growing as we go towards the more advanced weeks.

It is all about setting a routine. I need to pre plan the route and the time. So far I have been able to adhere to the program.
I'll keep updating this section with details of my run. This would help me document my journey and also keep me committed to the goal.
